Abstract:Chorioamnionitis as a major risk factor contributes to prematurity-associated mortality and morbidity.Fetal inflammatory response syndrome (FIRS) should not be ignored.Prompt diagnosis can help avert the significant short-term (endometritis, neonatal sepsis and perinatal infections) and long-term consequences (infant' s systemic and neurologic sequelae). This article aims to summarize the short-term outcomes and long-term sequaelas of chorioamnionitis, and calls for future studies which aim to better understand the mechanism of disease and to develop better detection and intervention methods to prevent the significant associated morbidity.
