Abstract:Objective To explore new indices for evaluating the safety of the heart and the change of cardiac reserve dur-ing pregnancy. Methods Eighty-four pregnant women and seventy-one non-pregnant women volunteers participated in this study. By using a non-invasive method for measuring and evaluating cardiac reserve, the heart rate (HR), the ratio of the first heart sound's amplitude to the second heart sound's (S1/S2), and the ratio of diastolic duration to the systolic duration (D/S) were measured, calculated, and analyzed. Results HR [(95.24±12.80)/mini and S1/S2 (2.14±0.83)of pregnant women rose as compared with the non-pregnant women's[(75.97±9.78)/min, 1.84± 0.86]; The D/S(1.24±0.21) of pregnant women reduced as compared with the non-pregnant women's (1.57± 0.32). There are significant differences (P < 0.05). Conclusion The cardiac function of pregnant women up-regu-lates and the cardiac burden is increased because of pregnancy stress. The research on these new indices for evaluating the safety of the heart will be beneficial to women's cardiac health during pregnancy.
