Abstract:Umbilical artery Doppler velocimetry is an effective and noninvasive measurement, to assess fe-tal-placenta hemodynamic variation. It can predict the fetal development and the perinatal outcomes by means of measuring the parameter such as S/D, PI, RI and so on. Absent or reversed end-diastolic veloc-ity (AREDV) during pregnancy is a strong risk indi-cation of intrauterine death, with perinatal mortality as much as 50%. As a test for placental function, umbilical artery flow study show low sensibility in normal pregnancy screening. However,it is significant for high-risk pregnancy (pregnancy-induced hyper-tension, intrauterine growth retardation, fetal dis-tress, etc.), and it can provide important basis for clinical diagnosis and treatment.
