Abstract:Objective To study the relationship between the expression of matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-2 and -9 in endometrial endometrial adenocarcinoma normal endometrial tissue and clinical and prognosis of the disease. Methods The expression of MMP-2 and MMP-9 were examined in 100 patients with endometrial adenocarcinoma Between October of 2005 and March of 2009 in Zhongshan Hospital Affthated to Sun Yat-sen University by immunohistochemistry ( EnVi-sion method). We used 30 normal endometrial tissue as control. Results The normal endometrium mesenchymal and the epithelial cell may secrete MMPs, MMP-2, 9, in the normal endometrium proliferative phase expression increases, but in the secretory phase nearly early does not have the expression ( P>0.05 ). The expression of MMP-2 and MMP-9 in endometrial adenocarcinoma was significantly stronger than that in normal endometrial (P<0.05). The expression of MMP-2 and MMP-9 in endometrial adenocarcinoma tissues was increased with advanced clinical stages and pathological grades(P<0.05). As compared to the patiens without lymph node metastasis, the expressions of MMP-2 and MMP-9 in endometrial carcinoma was significantly higher than that in patients with lymph node metastasis. The expression of MMP-2 and MMP-9 was positively correlated (r=0.545 ,P<0.01). The expression MMP-2 and MMP.9 was correlated with patient survival (P<0.05 ). Conclusion MMP-2 and MMP.9 might promote the development of endometrial adenocar-cinoma. The expression of MMP-2 and MMP-9 in endometrial adenoearcinoma was related to the clinical stages, patho-logical grades, and lymph node metastasis and can be used to predict the prognosis of endometrial adenocarcinoma.
