Application of interventional radiology in severe postpartum hemorrhage
Abstract:Objective To investigate the value of interventional radiology in severe postpartum hemorrhage. Methods 24 cases of postpartum hemorrhage were performed arteries embolization ( Interventional group ), and 47cases of postpartum hemorrhage who were performed hysterectomy/subtotal hysterectomy in 3 hospitals during 15 years were reviewed as control group(operation group). Results Mean time of procedure in interventional group was 55.5min which was significantly shorter than that of operation group (121.4 min, p<0.05). Time for bleeding stop after embolization was (5.9±2.6) min. Recurrent hemorrhage was observed in one case of operation group who underwent subtotal hysterectomy, and we had successfuly stopped bleeding by interventional technique. Conclusions With very short procedure time and rare complications, interventional radiology is proved to be very effective in the treatment of severe postpartum hemorrhage.
