Transcatheter closure of atrial septal defects with Amplatzer septal occluder
Abstract:Objective To investigate the transcatbeter closure of atrial septal defects( ASD ) with Amplatzer septal occlu-der(ASO). Methods 46 children with ASD, aged 2 to 15(7. 5 ±4. 2), were enrolled in this study. Under the anesthesia, the diameter of ASD was measured and the appropriate ASO was selected. In the guidance of ultrasound, The device wasplaced properly to enclose the ASD. The location of the device , the condition of atrioventricular valve and the residual shuntwere detected, in order to ensure the defects had been enclosed completely. Results The procedure was performed success-fully in 46 cases with the operation time 65. 88 ± 20. 78 min and median fluoroscopy time 11. 1 ± 4. 04 min. ConclusionTranscatheter closure of atrial septal defects with Amplatzer septal occluder is a safe and effective way in treating the ASD pa-tients over 2 years old. It is recommended that echocardiography be employed during the procedure.
