Advancements in preoperative evaluation and surgical management of temporal lobe epilepsy

Abstract:Temporal lobe epilepsy(TLE)stands out as one of the most responsive forms of epilepsy to surgical intervention,yet a significant number of patients still face a poor prognosis.The key to a favorable patient outcome lies in rigorous preoperative evaluation and the judicious selection of surgical strategies.Over recent years,the field has witnessed remarkable advancements in symptomatology,neuroimaging,neuropsychology,and electrophysiology,which have been complemented by a deeper understanding of TLE's etiology and network dynamics among epilepsy specialists.These developments have significantly enhanced the standards of preoperative assessment and surgical management for TLE.This review reviews the latest advancements in the preoperative evaluation and surgical treatment of TLE,serving as a reference for clinical practice.
