Abstract:Cerebrospinal fluid(CSF)is a colorless and transparent liquid distributed within the cerebral ventricles and subarachnoid space, providing a liquid environment and facilitating substance exchange for the central nervous system(CNS).Traditional anatomy held that lymphatic vessels are absent in the CNS,implying the brain lacks conventional lymphatic drainage pathways. However, recent studies have confirmed the existence of lymphatic circulation within the CNS.Current research focuses on the brain's glymphatic system and meningeal lymphatic vessels, both of which offer new perspectives on CSF circulation and explain how the brain efficiently clears metabolic waste. The composition, physiological functions, and disease associations of the CNS lymphatic system have become key areas of investigation. This review summarizes recent advances in these aspects, highlighting novel discoveries and insights from recent years, aiming to provide new insights for clinical diagnosis and treatment.
