Abstract:Migraine is a common, chronic, and disabling neurological disorder that imposes a heavy burden on patients and society. At present, the main treatment is oral drugs, supplemented by neuromodulation and biobehavioral therapy.Due to the not fully clarified pathogenic mechanisms, different treatment methods have their own emphases.Peripheral nerve decompression for migraine was once considered as a placebo effect. However,in recent years, the literature supporting the effectiveness of peripheral nerve decompression for migraine has grown rapidly. This article reviews the safety and effectiveness of peripheral nerve decompression for migraine(including nerve block, nerve transection, vascular ligation, and nerve decompression),and focuses on screening methods and surgical techniques for four categories of migraine trigger sites. It further clarifies the clinical prospects of these procedures, aiming to provide more viable treatment options for clinical practice and alleviate patient suffering and economic burdens.
