Abstract:Neurofibromatosis type 1(NF-1)is an autosomal dominant hereditary disorder, and a few patients may present with spinal deformities.Arachnoid cysts are frequently found in the intracranial region but are relatively rare in the spinal canal. The combination of NF-1 with severe spinal deformity and arachnoid cysts in the intervertebral foramen area is extremely rare. This paper reports a case of such a patient,a 53-year-old male with a history of NF-1.Preoperative spinal X-ray examination revealed S-shaped scoliosis of the spine.Preoperative CT and MRI identified a space-occupying lesion at the left intervertebral foramen of the T4 vertebra. As the patient refused spinal corrective surgery, the space-occupying lesion at the intervertebral foramen was resected surgically.Postoperative pathology indicated an arachnoid cyst.A review CT scan 5 months after the operation showed a significant reduction in the cyst size, and the scoliosis did not aggravate.
