Abstract:Hereditary ataxia(HA)is a group of neurodegenerative diseases with highly heterogeneous clinical manifestations and genetic phenotypes. Its main feature is the impairment of cerebellar function, leading to symptoms such as motor incoordination and balance disorders, which significantly reduce the quality of life of patients. As an emerging non-invasive intervention method, transcranial direct current stimulation(tDCS)of the cerebellum has received extensive attention in the field of HA treatment.Existing studies have shown that cerebellar tDCS has demonstrated certain potential in improving motor function, balance ability, and cognitive levels in HA patients. However, the underlying neurophysiological mechanisms remain incompletely understood, and treatment protocols still need to be further optimized to enhance clinical efficacy, thereby providing more effective intervention measures for HA patients. This article reviews the current application status, possible mechanisms, and recent clinical research progress of cerebellar tDCS in HA treatment, and aims to provide references for subsequent scientific research and clinical practice.
