Abstract:Objective To evaluate the relationship between the glioma location and preoperative glioma-related epilepsy(GRE)in patients with gliomas. Methods The databases including PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, China Biology Medicine, the Cochrane Library and CNKI were systematically searched for original articles of relationship between the glioma location and preoperative GRE published before the January, 2017 including randomized control study and case-control study. The meta-analysis was performed by Stata 12.0 software. Results A total of 4, 013 participants in 15 population-based studies were included in this meta-analysis. Meta analysis showed that gliomas in the frontal lobe were significantly associated with increased preoperative GRE risk(OR=1.43,95% CI:1.03~1.98,P=0.031)and the patients with gliomas in the occipital lobes had relatively low preoperative GRE(OR=0.49,95% CI:0.26~0.93, P=0.014). Conclusions Compared with those in the patients with temporal, parietal and insular lobes gliomas, the incidence of preoperative GRE was the highest in the patients with frontal gliomas, and the lowest in the patients with occipital gliomas. Our findings provide a clinical basis for the management of epileptic seizures in patients with gliomas.Due to the effect of confounding factors on the outcomes of the present study, the above conclusions need to be further verified by large-scale high-quality research.
