Abstract:Objective To investigate the effect of mild hypothcrmia on barrier function of intestine mucous membrane in patients with severe traumatic brain injury(sTBI).Methods Of 52 patients with sTBI 24 received mild hypothermia therapy and routine treatment of neurosurgery (observed group), and 28 routine treatment of neurosurgery (control group). The plasma levels of D-lactate and endotoxin were determined before the treatment and 24,48 and 72 hours after the treatment in all the patients. The prognoses 3 months after the treatment were compared between both the groups. Results The plasma level of D-lactate and endotoxin were significantly lower in the observed group than those in the control group 24,48 and 72 hours after the treatment(P<0.05).There were insignificant differences in the rates of pulmonary infection, intracranial infection and stress ulcer and GOS and survival rate 3 months after the treatment between both the groups (P>0.05).Conclusion It is suggested the mild hypothermia therapy has a protective effect on barrier function of intestine mucous membrane in the patients with sTBI and insignificant efffects on their prognoses.
