Abstract:Objective To explore the change in endocrine hormone in the patients with severe traumatic brain injury in the plateau. Methods The serum levels of FSH, LH and PRL were determined by quantitative radioimmunoassay method in 60 patients with severe traumatic brain injury and 60 patients with mild traumatic brain injury 1, 3, 7, 14 and 21 days after the injury and were statistically analyzed. Results There were insignificant differences in the serum levels of FSH and LH between the patients with severe traumatic brain injury and the patients with mild traumatic brain injury 1, 3, 7, 14 and 21 days after the injury (P>0.05). The serum levels of PRL were significantly higher in the patients with severe brain injury than that in the patients with mild brain injury 1 day after the injury (P<0.05). Conclusions The serum level of PRL may be increased 1 day after the injury in the patients with severe traumatic brain injury compared to that in the patients with mild traumatic brain injury. But there were insignificant changes in the serum levels of FSH and LH in the patients with severe brain injury compared to that the patients with mild brain injury 1, 3, 7, 14 and 21 days after the injury.
