Abstract:Objective To set up and evaluate the graded traumatic brain injury (TBI) in rats. Methods Forty SD rats were divided into 4 groups of 10 animals each, i.e. control group (no injury), mild injury group, moderate injury group and severe injury group. The graded TBI models were established by the modified Feeney's method. The changes in the behavior and cerebral tissues pathology were observed 24 hours after the injury in all the groups. Results The more severe TBI was, the worse the coordinated ability of action (balance wood test) was, the higher the neurological severity scores were, the worse the learning and memory (water maze test) were and the more serious the pathological changes in the cerebral tissues were. Conclusion The model of graded TBI is successful established, and may be applied to the experimental study of TBI.
