Abstract:Objective To explore the clinical characteristics and therapeutic method of dysembryoplastic neuroepithelial tumors (DNT). Methods The clinical data of 11 patients with DNT undergoing the surgery from February, 2008 to October, 2012 were analyzed retrospectively, including the clinical manifestations, and imaging and pathological features. Results The tumors, which were located in the supertentotial regions, were totally resected in all the patients. The resection of epileptogenic zones or lessoning the cortexes were performed in 10 patients with epilepsy before the surgery. The following up from 1 to 5 years showed that epilepsy disappeared in 8 and seizure decreased in 2 of 10 patients with epilepsy before the surgery. Conclusions DNT, a benign tumor, may be definitely diagnosed only by the histopathological examination. The clinical manifestations and imaging examination are helpful to the diagnosis of DNT. The curative effect of surgery on DNT is good. It is not necessary for the patients with DNT to receive radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
