Preliminary Study of the Relationship between VEGF and Vascularization of Cerebral Glioma and Its Prognostic Implication
Abstract:Objective To evaluate the relationship among VEGF and thepathological grades microvascular densities (MVD), and the prognosis in the patients with cerebral glioma. Methods Retrospetive review of clinical data of 48 patients with cerebral glioma was carried out. The immunohistochemical technique was used for assessing the expression of VEGF in all of these patients. Results, No positive VEGF staining was found in the normal brain tissues while in the samples of glioma positive VEGF rate was as high as 45.83%. Statistical significant difference of VEGF expressions was observed in different pathologic grades of glioma and the various postoperative survival states of these patients. The positive rate of VEGF staining was also closely related to the MVD in the tumor tissues of these patients. Conclusion The authors concluded that, VEGF played a role in the formation and progression of the glioma and could promote intratumoral microvascular formation, and was closely related to the prognosis of the patients.
