Study of Relationship of VEGF and PCNA to Peritumoral Brain Edema in Patients with Meningioma
Abstract:Objective To investigate the expressions of vascular endiothelialgrowth factor (VEGF) and proliferative cell nuclear antigen (PCNA), and their correlation with the extent of peritumoral brain edema (PTBE) .Methods The VEGF and PCNA protein expressions were examined by immunohistochemical technique in 41 cases with meningioma while their extents of PTBE were assessed by preoperative MRI or CT scans. Results The VEGF expression in the tumor tissue was closely related with PTBE. Significantly positive relation between VEGF and PCNA expressions was observed. Conclusions VEGF of the tumor tissue may play an important role in the occurrence of PTBE and it is closely related with the proliferative activity of tumor cells in the patients with meningioma.
