Surgical Treatment of Arachnoid Cyst in Patient with Epilepsy
Abstract：Objective To evaluate the pathogenic relationship betweenintracranial arachnoid cyst(AC) and epilepsy, and assess the optimal method of treatment. Methods The clinical data of 23 patients suffering from AC and epilepsy, who had underwent surgical treatment, were analyzed retrospectively. Resections of AC and epileptogenic zones were performed in 21 cases,cysto-peritoneal shunt in 1 and callosection in another 1 case. Results Postoperative follow-up demonstrated that,5 patients were seizure-free,11 patients were improved and 7 patients remained unchanged. Conclusions Intracranial AC usually is the cause of epilepsy. Resection of AC and epileptogenic zones is a relatively ideal option of treatment.
