Endovascular Embolization of Intracranial Aneurysms with Detachable Coil
Abstract:Objective To introduce experiences in endovascular embolizationof intracranial aneurysms, with detachable coils. Methods Data of 32 patients, who suffered from intracranial aneurysms and received endovascular embolization with mechanical detachable spirals system (MDS)or Guglielmi detachable coils (GDC) were analyzed retrospectively in order to examine the exact efficacy of this therapeutic method. Results,Endovascular embolization was successfully performed in 30 of the 32 cases. One patient died of refractory cerebral vascular spasm after operation for the basilar artery aneurysms. Rapturing of the aneurysm during procedures of endovascular embolization was the cause of death in another case. Conclusion,The authors concluded that both the MDS and the GDC were the ideal embolic materials, and that endovascular embolization with these materials was a safe, effective, and reliable method for treatment of the intracranial aneurysms.
