Abstract:Thin interbedded coal measures refer to a stacked gas-bearing reservoir with vertical-ly complex lithological distribution of thin interbedded coal measure gas reservoirs. The hy-draulic fracturing and gas extraction from this stacked gas-bearing reservoir are usually done with single well to penetrate these thin interbedded coal measure gas reservoirs. However, the mechanism of fracture penetration into these thin gas-bearing layers and the effect of interlayer interference on gas recovery efficiency are unclear. For an efficient recovery of thin interbedded coal measure gas,a theoretical framework is urgently required for the fracturing and extraction of thin interbedded coal gas with single well. This article proposes the key scientific issues on the coal measure gas recovery during single well fracturing and coproduction, outlines the problem solution strategy by introducing the concepts of rock mechanics stratigraphy, and fi-nally presents our preliminary attempts in the rock mechanics stratigraphy theory for single well fracturing and coproduction of coal measure gas.Our research results so far indicate that rock mechanics stratigraphy theory can establish a coupling framework for reservoir fracability prediction by combining numerical simulations and machine learning. The optimal fracturing location of reservoirs can be identified by combining the stratified sampling and the virtual sample generation method of Vine Copula. The theoretical framework and model based on the rock mechanics stratigraphy theory can describe the hydraulic fracture penetrations into thin interbedded coal measure gas reservoirs, predict the permeability of coal gas reservoirs after fracturing, and explore the impact of interlayer and wellbore interference on gas coproduction efficiency. These form a preliminary framework of rock mechanics stratigraphy theory for sin-gle well fracturing and coproduction of thin interbedded coal measure gas.
