Abstract:The paper was devoted to the investigation of temperature evolution during a laboratory granite strain-burst test by using infrared thermography. The test was performed following five load-unloading cycles.During the first unloading, there was a decrease of the initial temperature. The results indicates that the average radiation temperature is increasing with stress level due to strain energy accumulated.During the damage stage, the propagation of cracks result in slightly increment of local temperature.During the ejection stage, the increment of local temperature is larger than during the previous stage. Finally, during the test, the increment of local temperature caused by cracks is much larger than caused by ejections.By using the infrared thermography,it is possible to measure the crack evolution on the surface and to establish a relation between the increase of temperature and the length of cracks.
