The morphological feature of hard-to-float fine coal and enhancing its floatability by stirring
Abstract:The morphological feature of hard-to-float fine coal was investigated by a scanning e- lectron microscope (SEM), which shows that the fine coal surface is covered by heterogeneous fine clays and the cracks on coal particles surface are filled with high-ash fine clays. The fine clays are mainly consist of micron order clay mineral, e.g. kaolin, and easy to be mud. The effect of stirring speed on Zeta potential, contact angle and flotation behavior were investiga- ted. The results show that Zeta potential can be reduced by increasing the stirring speed. The hydrophobicity of fine coal particle can be increased by high-intensity stirring which may remove the fine clays from coal surface. The optimum stirring speed is 2 200--2 400 r/min. The combustible matter recovery under a higher stirring speed is increased by 10% than that under a lower stirring speed when the ash content of clean coal is qualified.
