Study of the mechanism of coal and gas outburst induced by drilling
Abstract:A homemade device was used to simulate an underground gas outburst during drill-ing. Real time monitoring by a high speed photographic camera was used to follow the progress of the simulation. Coal fracture during jet orifice drilling was analyzed. Both tangential and ra- dial stress was forced into the coal mass preceding the drill hole. The vibration of the drill stem on the coal mass surrounding the hole was also examined along with deformation of the interior of the hole. A theory linking coal and gas outburst to drill hole bursting is described.
