Research on stability of bedding rock slopes under hydraulic pressure
Abstract:This paper reports improvements to the theory of slope hydraulic pressure stability. The hydrodynamic pressure on the structural plane was calculated under the assumption that the hydrostatic pressure is maximum at half the total water level. The water level in tension cracks influences the hydrostatic and hydrodynamic pressures on the structural plane. The crit- ical level of water in the tension cracks can be used as a criterion for slope stability. An actual slope was analyzed and the influence of hydrostatic pressure on structure and tension cracks was used to predict slope stability. The affect from hydrodynamic pressure on the structure was considerably weaker. The safety factor for plane failure is reduced 16.8 percent by hydro- static pressure effects and 1.2 percent by hydrodynamic pressure effects for the given conditions.
