Characteristics and experimental study of water conduction caused by fault activation due to mining
Abstract:Water conduction caused by fault activation, as an important form of water inrush in coal mining, has strong and hidden mining risks. According to hydrodynamic theory of frac- tured media, the necessary condition for water conduction by fault activation should be stron- ger water pressure than normal stress in the original water conduction zone around fault. Un- balanced water pressure and ground stress caused by mining are the incentives for water con- duction by fault activation. The results show that seepage comes out from the fracture when water pressure is more than the confining stress in the lower permeability rock. Field tests a- bout water injection show that F6 was activated to lead water conduction when water pressure was up to 3.5 MPa in the Ge-ting coal mine, while the ground stress of numerical simulation was 2 to 4 MPa. The results of the theoretical analysis, experimental test and field test were consistent.
