Collision effect analysis of skew continuous bridge under seismic response
Abstract:In order to study the effect of collision between the superstructure ana abutment on the seismic response of skew continuous bridges, the Tangzihe bridge was used as a prototype, nonlinear finite element models of skew continuous bridges with different skew angles were de- veloped. The characteristic of seismic response of skew continuous bridge with the collision effect considered or not were studied using a nonlinear time history analysis method. The re- suits show that the torsional displacement of superstructure will be induced by the collision and increase with the increasing of skew angle. The maximum seismic torques in the piers of the skew continuous bridge calculated with the collision effects considered are obviously larger than that calculated without the collision effects considered. If the collision effect was ignored dur- ing the process of seismic design, the seismic torque would be underestimated and the risk of seismic damage might be improved.
