Experimental study of geothermal heat exchangers embedded in a diaphragm wall
Abstract:Field experiment was carried out at the Shanghai Museum of Nature History, which adopts the new technology of embedding heat exchangers in diaphragm wall for the first time in China. The heat transfer performance of heat exchangers in diaphragm wall was investigated under different conditions including the type of heat exchangers, the water velocity, the inlet water temperature and the, operation modes. The experiment results show that the structural type and heat transfer performance of heat exchangers in diaphragm wall are quite different from heat exchangers in borehole. The heat of concrete hydration has an important effect on the temperature of diaphragm wall, and this may significantly affect the heat transfer perform- ance of heat exchangers. Enlarging the distance of branch tubes can improve the efficiency of heat exchangers. A reasonable water velocity was from 0.6 to 0.9 m/s under the experimental condition and the exchange rate was found to increase linearly with the temperature of inlet wa- ter. An intermittent mode of operation may be an effective way to improve the heat transfer performance.
