Relationship between pre-tightening force and tightening torque
Abstract：An elastic-plastic model was used to study bolt supports in surrounding rocK. I ne re- lationship between pre-tightening force and tightening torque was predicted with the model. The combination of anchoring and axial forces was studied with the model and an equation rela- ting pre-tightening force to tightening torque was developed. Test equipment was constructed to validate the equation. The results from experimental tests show that for tightening torques less than 300 N ~ m the equation accurately predicted the relationship. This provides an easy way to judge the quality of construction.
