Effects of the structures of aromatic collectors on flotation performance
Abstract:The effects of the structures of three types aromatics collectors, including monosubstituted benzene, disubstituted benzene and disubstituted naphthalene on flotation performance were investigated through the measurements of Zeta potential, contact angle, gasliquid surface tension and IR spectrum. The adsorption effect mechanism of coal and aromatic collectors was discussed. The results indicate that the flotation activity of the three collectors decrease in the order as follows: disubstituted naphthalene〉 disubstituted benzene〉 monosubstituted benzene. When the number of benzene ring of collectors is the same, the difference of flotation activity is determined by the number of carbon atom of the longest substituent. The other substituent only plays an auxiliary role. Moreover, the more the number of substituent of the aromatic collector are, the stronger the flotation activity is. When the number of the carbon atom of the longest substituent is five, the flotation activity is the best. The role between the aromatic collectors and alkyl, amino and ether groups in coal can be considered as chemical adsorption.
