A critical soil model for deep clay under high stress levels
Abstract:A new critical soil model, based on the CASM model that includes the effects from cohesion parameter C is described. The material properties of this model, CASM-hc, were programmed using ABAQUS. Undrained triaxial shear tests were simulated using the new model for average to high stress levels. CASM-hc adequately predicts the critical strength characteristics of saturated deep clay over these stress levels. If parameter C is zero the calculated critical stress ratio exceeds the test values by a factor of 1.66 for the high stress case. Calculated peak deviatoric stress and pore water pressure both decrease when cohesion decreases; the decrease is 1.44 times the decrease in C.
