Study of the shock wave propagation and gas flow during a coal and gas outburst at the roadway with a right-angled bend
Abstract:A right angled roadway model was used for experimental and numerical studies of shock wave propagation and gas flow during a coal and gas outburst. The propagation and attenuation of the shock wave and gas flow from the outburst were numerically simulated.Gas transport and gas concentrations are predicted from the simulations.A high speed shock wave and gas flow form during the outburst. The propagation velocity of the wave can exceed the local speed of sound. The wave is diffracted and reflected at the bend in the roadway. The wave intensity can increase at the bend.It then decreases rapidly as the shock wave passes around the bend.High gas concentrations form because of the outburst but the mass transfer rate is slower that the velocity of the shock wave.Experimental studies have shown a preliminary validation of the numerical simulations.
