Simulation on unloading induced deformation of a high slope by beam-particle model
Abstract:A beam-particle model was used to predict unloading induced deformation of a high rock slope. The discrete, composite structure was simulated with DEM to obtain particle movements.Beam deformation and end forces were obtained from the relative displacement of the beams.Beam ends were in contact with the particles and accumulated deformation, and damage, appears as deformation and fracture of the beams. The model and simulation code were verified by predicting the results of a uniaxial compression test. Then the model was used to simulate the deformation of a high slope from unloading. The field structure under consideration is the permanent ship lock of the Three Gorges dam.The simulations are in approximate agreement with the measurements: A difference of about 3% was observed.Hence, the model will predict the deformation of a high rock slope induced by unloading.
