Oxidative degradation of Dongtan bituminous coal in aqueous NaOC1 solution
Abstract:Dongtan bituminous coal was oxidized with aqueous NaOC1 solution at 30 °C for 24 h. The reaction mixture acidified was extracted with ethoxyethane, followed by esterification with CH2N2, and was analyzed by GC/MS. The conversion of coal reached to 91.5%, and 14.8% solid acids content were obtained. The benzene polycarboxylic acids(76.5%)are main products, and there also were considerable quantities of organonitrogen compounds (ONCs), chloro-compounds and aliphatic acids. Besides the related ONCs detected (e. g. , pyridine, indole, quinoline and carbazole), other structure forms such as two nitrogen elements in one ring (imidazole and pyrimidine) or nitrogen and sulfur in the same ring (dibenzothiazine) were also identified, which were helpful for understanding the structures of ONCs in coals on molecular level. So the oxidation of coal with NaOC1 is a promising method to study coal structure, and efficient use of coal.
