Error analysis in direct shear rock-mass structural tests
Abstract:Experimental data, some reasonable assumptions, and the least squares theory were used to study the variations in stress and strength parameters of rock under shear. The results show that: With the decrease in the shear area the normal and shear stresses of each rock sam- ple increase in the same proportion affecting the strength parameters~ In the example men- tioned a linear relationship between changes in the shear area and shear displacement was ob- tained~ In the area of lowest vertical pressure the effect is greater than it is at the highest verti- cal pressure for equal shear displacement. The impact of decreasing shear area on cohesion is greater than the impact on internal friction angle. The internal friction angle remains essential- ly unchanged. The results from a practical example indicate that the relative error in the inter- nal friction angle is O. 72% while the relative error in the cohesion is 4 14~
