Study of the ultimate bearing based on different capacity of a shaft lining failure criteria
Abstract:The impact of the shaft lining ultimate bearing capacity under different failure criteria was studied. The results show that using the traditional Von Mises failure criteria for design calculations of the shaft lining tends to result in safe designs. The ultimate bearing capacity of the shaft lining was increased by 4.4o//00, 10.1~, or 21.5~ and calculations with the Hsieh- Ting-Chen, Kupfer, or G-W failure criteria were compared to those using the Von-Mises fail- ure criteria. Full advantage of the multi-axis strength of concrete may be taken by using more suitable failure criteria for the concrete during the design calculations of the shaft lining.
