Measuring methods of oxidative heat release rates from loose coal
Abstract:A model of oxidative heat release from loose coal was proposed based on porous media heat transfer theory. An experimental way to measure oxidative heat release from loose coal was designed. The thermal conductivity and specific heat were used to find the heat release from coals of different metamorphic grade and size. Heat release was found to increase expo- nentially with the rise in temperature. Below 60 to 70 ~C the increase was small but above this temperature the heat release rapidly increased. Oxidative heat release is larger of coal with a lower metamorphic grade, coal with a larger self-heating tendency, and coal with higher dy- namic oxygen absorption. An increase in the size of the coal decreased the heat release at a giv- en temperature. The experimental and predicted results agree. This helps implement the goal of rapid coal testing.
