Abstract:Compound powder was prepared from quartz powder coated with titanium dioxide by a chemical deposition method. The effects of reaction temperature, hydrolysis time, seeds and the surfactant in TiOSO4-H2O-SiO2 system on coating were studied, and the morphology, composition and surface functional groups of the compound powder were characterized by SEM, XRD and IR, respectively. The results show that well coated compound powder can be obtained using self-growing seed during chemical deposition in the presence of surfactant and under optimized reaction conditions at hydrolysis temperature of 95 ℃ , lasting 5 hours for the quartz powder TiOSO4 water solution system. The whiteness of derived compound powder is up to 93. 4. The compact anatase titanium dioxide is coated on the surface of kernel quartz powder, and the kernel and shell components are linked by chemical bond which results in the high coating intensity.
