Abstract:Bond-slip model including strain-penetration effects was modified to better consider how bond deterioration, caused by corrosion of the reinforcement, affects seismic performance. A constitutive law for bond-slip, including corrosion effects, was used to deduce a yield-slip formula for use in the model. An OpenSees platform was studied with the modified model by examining nonlinear behavior of a beam-column sub-assembly under cyclic loading. Simulations agree with the restoring-force model of corroded reinforced concrete that is based upon experimental data. This proves the utility of the new modified model. Simulations indicate that after three percent corrosion the effect on bond strength is obvious and that constitutive relationships must then take this into consideration.
