Abstract:A theoretical analysis of a force-deformation mechanism is presented along with a corresponding mechanical model. Finite element methods, which included material and geometric non-linearity and large elastic-plastic deformation, were used to model a T-stub connection under cyclic loading. The hysteresis, failure mode and load bearing capacity are significantly affected by the thickness of the T-stub. Thin T-stub flanges are not beneficial. Requirements for ductility of the components should determine the thickness of the T-stub. Most beam-to-column connections employing T-stubs have shown sufficient ductility. The maximum shift angles of samples are more than 0. 03 radians with some reaching as much as 0. 055 radians.
