Abstract:The temperature field around a single freezing-pipe was analyzed using the variable substitution method where the freezing front was separated into a frozen field and a non-frozen field. The model was used to predict the phase transition near the pipe. The temperature distri-bution in the frozen and non-frozen fields was expressed by an exponential integral function. For ease in numerical calculation, the exponential integral was expressed as a polynomial. The results show that the relation between the freezing-front radius and the freezing time follows a square root equation of the form: §=2(√α_1βt). The computational example shows that the temperature field for a single freezing pipe is similar to a logarithmic function and that its cur-vature decreases as more freezing days pass.
