Abstract:Several aromatics, 9,10-dihydroanthracene(DHA), 9,10-dihydrophenanthracene(DHP), acenaphthene(ACE) and dibenzyl(DB) were taken as the model compounds to react with N-bromosuccinicimide (NBS) in benzene at room temperature and in normal atmosphere. The results show that the aromatic hydrocarbons containing methylene can be selectively dehydrogenated by controlling the ratio of aromatic to NBS, the concentration of aromatics or the intensity of light. This provides a new way for aromatics to dehydrogate under mild conditions.
