Abstract：In order to study the shear strength of soil under a high stress to ensure the security of design and construction of underground engineering in deep soil, a super-high pressure direct/residual shear testing system DRS-1, whose normal stress can amount to 30MPa, has been manufactured successfully. And it has a reliable function and high precision. All its major technical indexes reach the advanced level of analogous equipment at home and abroad．The primary testing result indicates that the shear strength of sand under a high stress is different from that under a low stress.
