Abstract:Some female spinal cord injured patients may present a raise of serum prolactin which is irrelevant with pregnancy, and re-sults in irregular menstruation and galactorrhea. Hyperprolactinemia may even happen in men after spinal cord injury. This kind of hyperpro-lactinemia does not relate with the level or severity of spinal cord injury, and maintains for various time. The hypersensitivity to thyrotro-pin-releasing hormone may relate to the elevatory serum prolactin and amenorrhea. In addition, there are some suspicious factors, such as chest wall injury, pituitary body contusion, enkephalins increasing, the stimulation of spinal neural pathways, stress, and so on. Bromocripti-ne has been tried for it.
