Interpretation of European Resuscitation Council Guidelines 2025 Special Circumstances in Resuscitation

Abstract:In October 2025,the European Resuscitation Council(ERC)released the 2025 ERC Guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation.The section on resuscitation in special circumstances encompasses specific treatments for cardiac arrest due to special causes,occurring in special settings,and affecting special populations.Major updates in the 2025 edition include discouraging routine emergency/early coronary angiography in patients without ST-segment elevation on electrocardiogram,revised recommendations for cardiac arrest associated with hyperkalemia,hypothermia,occurrence in the catheterization laboratory,and patients with asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD)as well as pregnant patients,and the addition of new recommendations for cardiac arrest occurring in the operating room,related to local anesthetics,and in patients with pectus excavatum.
