Abstract:Sepsis refers to life-threatening organ dysfunction caused by a dysregulated host response to infection.During sepsis, the heart is often the earliest and most frequently affected organ.Patients with sepsis are often accompanied by varying degrees of cardiac dysfunction, namely sepsis-induced myocardial dysfunction(SIMD).With the advances in echocardiography(including novel techniques such as speckle tracking),the description of SIMD not only includes the decrease in systolic function accompanied by a reversible reduction in the ejection fraction, but also includes hypernormal ejection fraction, left ventricular diastolic dysfunction, and right ventricular dysfunction.Similar to the heterogeneity of sepsis patients,SIMD also presents with heterogeneity. This review will discuss the different characteristics of echocardiographic changes and functional effects of SIMD,with the hope of providing new ideas for the treatment of SIMD.
