Abstract:Sepsis-associated encephalopathy(SAE)is one of the earliest and most common organ dysfunctions in the patients with sepsis, with an incidence of up to 70%.Recent studies have shown that the brain-gut axis plays a key role in the pathogenesis of SAE.This article systematically reviews the regulatory mechanisms of the brain-gut axis-mediated SAE occurrence and development, focuses on the role of the nervous system, endocrine system, immune system and intestinal microbiota in the pathogenesis of SAE,and discusses the therapeutic strategies targeting the brain-gut axis,so as to provide new ideas for the clinical prevention and treatment of SAE.
