Abstract:Sepsis is the leading cause of death in intensive care units patients, and its pathogenesis and course are complex.Severe sepsis may lead to multiple organ dysfunction syndrome, but there is no effective treatment method for the time being.Artesunate is one of the derivatives of artemisinin, which has anti-inflammatory effects in addition to anti-malarial effects, and plays a significant role in the treatment of sepsis by inhibiting the release of inflammatory factors and modulating the immune response.Artesunate has been shown to protect against sepsis-induced acute lung and liver injuries by modulating different signaling pathways, and also protects sepsis-prone target organs, such as the heart, kidney and nervous system. This article summarizes the latest research progress on the protective effects of artesunate in sepsis and sepsis-related organ injuries in order to provide new research ideas and therapeutic strategies for sepsis-related organ injuries.
