Abstract:Sepsis is a clinical syndrome characterized by systemic multi-organ dysfunction caused by infection. Its pathogenic mechanism is complex, and there is no effective targeted therapy strategy. The gut-liver axis refers to the interaction between the gut and the liver to maintain the body's homeostatic balance under physiological conditions. However,in sepsis, multiple mechanisms are involved in disrupting the structure and function of the gut and liver, which in turn leads to poor prognosis through gut-liver axis disorders. Thus, the gut-liver axis plays an important role in sepsis. This article summarizes the important mechanisms of gut injury, liver injury, and the interaction between them in sepsis, and prospects potential therapeutic strategies targeting the gut-liver axis in sepsis.
