Abstract:Sepsis has a complex pathogenic mechanism and is characterized by high morbidity and mortality. It is of great significance to explore for the biomarkers that can provide more accurate diagnosis and prognosis prediction of sepsis.Pentraxin-3(PTX-3)is the first identified long-chain pentraxin, and as a key mediator of innate immunity,it plays an important role in the regulation of systemic inflammatory activities.Several studies in recent years have demonstrated that in sepsis,PTX-3 levels are dramatically elevated and strongly correlated with disease severity and clinical outcome.PTX-3 has shown excellent value in the clinical diagnosis and prognostic assessment of sepsis, and in combination with other biomarkers,it can improve the diagnostic efficiency and optimize the risk stratification for septic patients. This article summarizes the biological functions of PTX-3 and relevant researches of PTX-3 in sepsis in order to expound the important role in septic diagnosis and prognosis prediction and provide new ideas for the clinical diagnosis and treatment of sepsis.
